• When will I have access to the lectures and assignments?

  Access to lectures and assignments depends on your type of enrollment. If you take a course in audit mode, you will be able to see most course materials for free. To access graded assignments and to earn a Certificate, you will need to purchase the Certificate experience, during or after your audit. If you don't see the audit option:

  • The course may not offer an audit option. You can try a Free Trial instead, or apply for Financial Aid.

  • The course may offer 'Full Course, No Certificate' instead. This option lets you see all course materials, submit required assessments, and get a final grade. This also means that you will not be able to purchase a Certificate experience.

• What is a Teach-Out?

  Teach-Outs are short learning experiences, each focused on a specific current issue. Attendees will come together over a few days to learn about a subject or event and gain skills. Teach-Outs are open to the world and are designed to bring together individuals with wide-ranging perspectives in respectful and deep conversation. These events provide opportunities for diverse learners and a multitude of experts to come together to ask questions of one another and explore new solutions to the pressing concerns of our global community.

• I see there are quizzes -- do I have to pass a quiz to complete a Teach-Out?

  We're offering these Teach-Outs on a platform designed for learning, so sometimes we take advantage of the platform tools. Quizzes are one way of helping everyone "get on the same page" about the topic, and be better able to discuss and ask questions. You can take the quizzes as many times as you want in order to pass, or you can move past them if you aren't interested in testing your knowledge.

• Does a Teach-Out have a fee?

  Teach-Outs are free learning experiences!

• Can I get a completion certificate?

  No, this isn't a course, therefore we don't offer a Course Certificate.

• Does this course contain anything disturbing?

  The subject matter of this course covers situations and events that are potentially disturbing to some learners. For example, suicide, domestic and intimate partner violence, violent crimes, and mass shootings are discussed throughout this course and may trigger personally traumatic experiences.

• I am or someone close to me is a survivor of gun violence. Is this course a place to seek and receive help?

  No, this course is an opportunity to learn about the evidence and research behind the complex public health crisis of gun violence in America. This course is purely an educational tool and is not intended to replace treatment or other health services. If you or a loved one need help, we suggest that you contact your local mental health provider, or state associations for psychologists, psychiatrists, or social workers. They can often provide you with a list of resources, some at no cost, for receiving the help you need.
